Founded in 1984 by the Belgian dancer and choreographer Patricia Kuypers, Contredanse has aimed, from its beginning, to support creations of choreography. It wants to offer tools and resources to choreographers and dancers, to allow them to link their work in the studio to an analysis of thoughts regarding movement, the body, the composition, history and their discipline.
Its activities are principally orientated towards information and documentation, in publishing as well as training. Contresdanse is also developing partners by associating itself with projects such as round tables, conferences, workshops of reflection relating to dance…
Its publishing activity is double: on one half, the annual production of a publication (a book, CD or DVD) on a theme linked to dance or the work of an artist; on the other half a quarterly journal of news, specifically news regarding dance, distributed freely.

Besides organisations of talks, seminars and trips, the Society publishes since its creation a scientific journal that, since its 2000 fusion with "le bulletin de la Société belge d'Études géographiques", is named "Belgeo". This journal seeks to be an international geographic journal and a showcase of the belgian qualitative geographic production.

The association Les Territoires de la Mémoire is an educational centre of Resistance and Citizenship. To carry out memory work with children, young people and adults, it develops various initiatives to relay the past and encourage the involvement of all in the construction of a democratic society which protects fundamental freedoms. Organised into three collections, they favour a comparative approach between analysis of the present and understanding of History(democracy, antiracism, genocide, totalitarianism…):

• « Voix de la Mémoire » : works of an academic dimension regarding themes or aspects linked to History and the memory of tragic facts of the past (Shoah, the Spanish War, the extreme right, populism…).


• « Libres Écrits » : a more direct tone for themes which are often contemporary (the language of the media, antidemocratic shifts…)


• « Points d’encrage » : an illustrated collection which aims to constitute a point of anchorage between the image and the word in subjects such as arbitrary imprisonment, multiculturalism, and exile.

The Royal Institute of the Artistic Heritage (in French, IRPA) is one of the ten scientific establishments within the jurisdiction of the federal Minister of Science policy. It dedicates to the inventory, the scientific analysis, the conservation and valorisation of the country?s artistic and cultural heritage. IRPA represents a unique asset for our country?s heritage, the movable as well as the real estate, and has a mission of research and public service. The Institute also provides the public an infotheca, an authentic information and research centre on Belgium?s artistic heritage. The infotheca brings together a photo library that currently exhibits over a million photographs, a book library that specialises in art history and the documentary collection from the Centre of Early Netherlandish paintings.
