The Archives générales du Royaume (General Archives of the Kingdom) and the Archives de l’État dans les Provinces (State Archives in the Provinces), known collectively as the Archives de l’État (the State Archives), are a scientific establishment of the Services publics fédéraux de Belgique (Federal public services of Belgium) that form part of the Service public fédéral de programmation (SPP) Politique scientifique (Federal Public Programming Service (FPS) Science policy).
The institution is made up of the Kingdom's General Archives in Brussels and 19 repositories of the State Archives across the country. From the acquisition of archives to their conservation, in addition to research, scientific research and promoting the collections, the tasks of the Archives de l’État are numerous. The Archives de l’État moreover aims to conserve archival documents produced and managed by Belgian public authorities.

Edern éditions was born out of a twofold observation, linked to developments in the publishing world: on the one hand, access to a professional publishing house is increasingly difficult; on the other, self-publishing appears to be a miracle solution, when in fact it is an illusion.
We are convinced that there is another way, one that radically breaks with a system that reinforces the monopoly of Parisian publishing and suffocates other publishers. The publishing house of the CIVA  (Centre International pour la Ville et l'Architecture et le Paysage) specialises in architecture – Belgian and international –in urban and rural settings. It offers – on its own or as part of a co-publication, in one or several languages – beautiful books dedicated to contemporary and emerging architecture but also the great figures of the 20th century, as well as exhibition catalogues. CIVA Editions are also developing several collections, one of which, ‘Ville et architecture’, highlights the architectural heritage of cities such as Riga, Lviv, Krakow, Brussels and its engineering heritage, and more recently, Kinshasa.
