2021 Fauve d'Or of the Angoulême festival : a Frémok comic selected

The comic book Eldorado, by Tobias Schalken (Frémok editions) is one of the nominees of the 2021 edition of the Angoulême International Comics Festival. The album is therefore eligible for the Fauve d’Or (the golden wildcat): the prize awarded to the best comic book, assigned by a grand jury.

Because of the Covid-19 epidemic, the festival has been postponed until June (24th to 27th June 2021) but the award ceremony will still be held at the end of January, when the festival usually takes place.

Eldorado is a very good example of Frémok editions’ approach: it is a book that tries to expand the framework of the classical comic book. Tobias Schalken is a Dutch artist who exploits all possible fields of the image, creating a dialogue between comic strips, painting and contemporary art’s installation, a dialogue that tells intimate stories related to the state of modern world.
