Guadalajara elected the 2022 World Book Capital
The town of Guadalajara, Mexico, has been elected by the UNESCO the World Book Capital of 2022, making it the successor of Tbilisi, Georgia.
Guadalajara was chosen because of its strategic project. Three major lines were favoured: the recapture of public spaces, the stimulation of social links and the strengthening of neighbourhood identities. The project aims to exploit literature in the fight against violence and the strengthening of human rights, gender equality and peace culture.
Several writing and reading workshops, events associating theatre and music to literature, along with poetry reading on the radio will be organised throughout the festivities, that will start on the 23rd April 2021 in the occasion of the World Book and Copyright Day.
Guadalajara is mostly known for its literary fair, which is the most important one in the Spanish-speaking world. This year, because of the sanitary crisis, the Fair will be held entirely online, from 28th November to 6th December 2020. Its programme has finally been revealed and is entirely available on the website.
